What course are you currently studying?

I am studying towards an MSc in Advanced Marketing.

Why did you choose to study a master’s at the University of Liverpool Management School?

I chose to study a master's at the University of Liverpool because it is a founding member of the Russell Group. Additionally, the University of Liverpool Management School is one of an elite group of institutions worldwide to hold the Gold Standard ‘Triple-Crown’ accreditation from AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS.

What’s the best thing about studying your programme?

The best thing about my programme is that it not only provides a comprehensive education in marketing but also strongly emphasises sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation. These values align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and have given me a deeper understanding of the importance of responsible and sustainable marketing practices. Additionally, the programme aims to equip me with critical analysis, creative thinking, and contemporary marketing theory skills, which will help me become a better leader in the industry. The combination of expert knowledge and a focus on sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation will prepare me to be a well-rounded and socially responsible marketing professional.

How do the facilities in the University and the Management School help you with your studies?

The facilities and support systems offered by the University of Liverpool and its Management School have been instrumental in my studies. From the halls of residence to the academic resources, I’ve been able to take advantage of everything the University offers.

The University provides a wealth of resources to make my studies more accessible and manageable. I’ve attended workshops and webinars through KnowHow, which have been invaluable for my coursework. Access to professional learning platforms like LinkedIn Learning has also been a game-changer, helping me stay on top of my studies and expand my knowledge and skills.

One of the standout benefits has been the excellent support system in the halls of residence. The Hall Wardens and Residential Advisors have been a constant source of help and support, not just for my academic pursuits but for my personal and emotional needs.

The Well-being Advice Guidance and Mental Health Advisory Service have also been excellent resources for me when discussing personal or emotional issues.

What kind of support do you get from academic staff and tutors?

Academic staff and tutors are always approachable and available for one-on-one consultations, whether I need to discuss an assignment or get feedback on an exam. They have regular office hours where I can drop by and ask questions. They don’t hesitate to go above and beyond to help me grasp challenging concepts and provide extra resources and personalized support.

Have you accessed any of the support services available to you, such as the School’s postgraduate careers team? If so, how did you find the service?

Yes, I have connected with the school’s postgraduate careers team and found it excellent in personalised guidance. I have access to a group of career specialists, including an MSc Careers Advisor and an International Employer Engagement Officer, as well as an online careers portal, Handshake, that is available 24/7 and allows me to stay informed about job openings, attend events, and access valuable career information and guidance. I have connected with people from firms such as Deloitte, thanks to the university-organised Big 4 Bootcamp. This year, the University provided us access to Student Circus, a job search platform for international students. Student Circus helps international students find visa-sponsoring jobs.

What do you enjoy most about the whole experience (thinking about any trips, social and extracurricular activities or guest speakers) and what value has that added?

I have thoroughly enjoyed the diverse range of experiences offered during this programme. Whether it was participating in social events and trips or listening to guest speakers, each one has added its unique value to my overall experience. I especially appreciated the opportunities to learn about different cultures and perspectives given to me through various student societies at the Liverpool Guild of Students. The guest speakers have also been a highlight, as they have brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. My personal favourite has been by Simon from Protein Works, a Runcorn-based online sports nutrition brand.

How do you believe undertaking master’s study will help your career prospects?

Completing a master's degree in Advance Marketing will significantly improve my career opportunities. The curriculum has been developed to boost employability skills, including enhancing my professional management, analytical, and cognitive abilities. The in-depth study of innovative marketing subjects, fostering teamwork skills, and understanding management and different stakeholder relationships will give me a comprehensive perspective on how to meet consumer needs while promoting sustainable marketing practices effectively.

What advice would you give to anybody considering master’s study?

My advice for anyone considering a master's degree would be to make the most of the strong alum network and connections with professionals in your field through university-arranged events. This can provide valuable insights and opportunities for your future career. Additionally, I recommend gaining relevant work experience and improving your skills through the university’s job search platforms. This can help you better understand your career goals and make you a more competitive candidate for future job opportunities. Don’t forget to explore financial aid and funding options, such as scholarships and assistantships, to help alleviate the financial burden of pursuing a master’s degree. Lastly, it’s crucial to create a plan for balancing your studies, work, and personal life, as a master’s programme can be demanding. Still, you can successfully balance your academic, professional, and individual responsibilities with proper planning and time management.
