Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU)
The Association of Commonwealth Universities is a global network of universities with a shared commitment to building a better world through international collaboration in higher education. ACU was established in 1913 and has over 400 members. There are a wide range of programmes to foster collaboration and a collective commitment to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through higher education.
Council for At-Risk Academics (Cara)
The Council for At-Risk Academics provides urgently needed help to academics in immediate danger, those forced into exile and many who choose to work on in their home countries despite serious risk. Founded in 1933, Cara works with a network of 120 UK universities, including the University of Liverpool, to host Cara Fellows at PhD and Postdoctoral Researcher level.

Jiangsu 2020 World Class Universities Forum
We are a founding member and co-Chair of the Jiangsu 2020 World Class Universities initiative. Established by the British Council, Universities UK and Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education in 2017, Jiangsu 2020 brings together universities in the UK and Jiangsu Province to promote multilateral research collaboration, aligned to global challenges as well as supporting UK – China talent mobility through seed funds, workshops and visiting researcher programmes.
RENEKI, Japan
As one of the founding members of the RENKEI Japan Consortium, we work with leading universities in Japan and the UK to further knowledge exchange and research collaboration. Through workshops and seed funds, the Consortium provides opportunities for Early Career Researchers to build networks in Japan as well as creating opportunities for external funding, including through the International Science Partnership Fund.
Taiwan UK Alliance
We are a member of the Taiwan – UK Universities Alliance, established by the British Council and launched as part of British Council’s Going Global Conference in December 2023. The Consortium brings together 8 universities from Taiwan and the UK to advance international co-operation, support mobility of Early Career Researchers and to address major global challenges from Net Zero to Global Health.
UK overseas campus network
The UK overseas campus network brings together 19 UK universities with campuses or joint ventures around the world. As one of the UK’s leading providers of transnational education, we work with colleagues across the network to learn and share approaches.
