How Clearing works

If you’re a UK or Republic of Ireland student, you can start your Clearing application from Tuesday 13 August and submit it on Thursday 15 August. International students can apply now.

What is Clearing?

Clearing is a process that allows students to search and apply for undergraduate courses at Universities that still have places available. The service is provided by UCAS and runs between July and September each year. You can find out more about how Clearing works, including a guide for parents and supporters on the UCAS website.

Who can use Clearing?

You can use Clearing once you've received your exam results.

You're eligible for Clearing if:

  • You have your exam results
  • You haven't received any offers
  • You declined the offers you received
  • You didn't meet the conditions of the offer
  • You're applying after 30 June.

You can also apply through Clearing if you're already holding an offer. If you've changed your mind about your choice of University, or your results are better than you expected, you can use Clearing to explore your options.

You may be placed into Clearing automatically by UCAS if you meet the above criteria, or you can release yourself into Clearing through UCAS.

How to apply for Clearing at the University of Liverpool

  1. Browse our Clearing vacancies. We expect to publish details of courses with places available for UK and Republic of Ireland students from Tuesday 13 August. You can view our Clearing vacancies for international students now.
  2. Start your online application. If you’re a UK or Republic of Ireland student, you can start your application from Tuesday 13 August and submit it on Thursday 15 August. International students can apply now.
  3. We’ll review your application and consider whether we’re able to make you an offer.
  4. If we make you an offer, you’ll get an email from us explaining what to do next to confirm your place.

Accommodation

Once we’ve confirmed your place, you’ll be invited to apply for accommodation. We can guarantee you a place in our Halls of Residence, or in University approved accommodation close to campus, if you apply for accommodation by Friday 30 August.

Take a look at our accommodation pages for further information.

How to contact us

We don't have a Clearing phone number, the best way to contact us with any queries about Clearing is by starting a live chat on this page.

Making changes to your course

If you've changed your mind about a course you've already applied to study with us, complete our change request form. We’ll try to accommodate requests where possible, but this is not guaranteed. Find out more about making changes to your offer on our confirm your place page.

Which courses are available through Clearing?

Any courses that have spaces available will appear on our Clearing course list. We can’t confirm which courses these will be until Clearing opens.

If you can’t find a course you’re interested in on our Clearing course list, this means it isn’t available to students applying through Clearing.

All Clearing applicants will start in the first year of their chosen course. It’s not possible to start in the second year, for example, if you’re applying to us through Clearing.

Please note, we don’t have waiting lists for our Clearing courses.

What are the entry requirements to apply through Clearing?

You can find the entry requirements for each course on our Clearing course pages once they become available. We can only accept applications from students who are aged 18 and over.

You’re welcome to apply if you have equivalent grades, UCAS points, have completed a Foundation Year or have a combination of Level 3 qualifications. Our admissions team will consider each application on a case-by-case basis and we will aim to get back to you with a decision by the end of the day.

Unfortunately, we can’t take mitigating circumstances into account for Clearing applicants. If you’re appealing your grades, we can only consider the grades you’ve currently been awarded.

We won’t ask you to attend an interview as part of your Clearing application, but you might get a call from us to discuss your application if we need any additional information.
