Agenda
What happens when a company best known for telling consumers not to buy their products releases a film about the world’s obsession with consumption?
That’s the focus of Patagonia’s bold and entertaining latest film, ‘The Shitthropocene’, a humorous yet sobering anthropological look at humanity’s addiction to cheap, disposable goods.
The film explores how our age of overconsumption has reshaped our planet and our habits. It examines why we reproduce and buy too much, tracing the psychological and economics forces that drive unsustainable consumption and its consequences.
Produced by Patagonia, an American outdoor clothing and gear company founded by Yvon Chouinard in 1973, the film reflects the brand’s long-standing commitment to environmental activism.
Known for its sustainable materials, repair-focused Worn Wear program, and mission to “save our home planet,” Patagonia has built a global reputation for challenging the norms of consumer culture.
After the screening, CSB Director, Professor Jo Meehan, will chair a panel of business leaders and CSB academics discussing the urgent issues highlighted in the film, including fast fashion, circularity, greenwashing and labour exploitation in global supply chains.
