Why did you decide to study at the University of Liverpool Management School?

I chose to study at ULMS for several reasons. Firstly, the University's reputation as one of the top institutions in the UK was a significant draw for me. Knowing that I would be part of a community with a long history of academic excellence and distinguished alumni filled me with confidence in my decision. Additionally, the School’s commitment to fostering a professional and interactive learning environment resonated with me. I believed that the dynamic curriculum would not only stimulate my creativity but also push me to challenge myself and expand my horizons. I was eager to immerse myself in a setting that would expose me to diverse perspectives, international opportunities, and new ideas, all of which I knew would be invaluable in shaping my personal and professional development for years to come.

What aspects of the MSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management programme were most valuable in preparing you for your career?

The programme equipped me with vital skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, and presentation skills. Successful entrepreneurs and guest speakers offered firsthand insights into the entrepreneurial journey. Opportunities from the Brett Centre for Entrepreneurship, such as networking events and startup pitching competitions, also enriched my experience and provided valuable connections. Overall, the programme not only enhanced my practical skills but also ignited a passion for innovation and entrepreneurship that continues to drive me in my early career.

You also won an ULMS ExECS Award – huge congratulations! How has winning this award impacted your career trajectory or goals?

Thank you! Winning the ULMS ExECS Award was a great honour, but it is the journey that truly shaped my career. Through various activities and events both within and outside the university, I developed crucial skills for my personal and professional growth. It also opened doors to new opportunities and expanded my professional network, providing me with the confidence, skills, and connections necessary to thrive in the competitive professional landscape.

As one of the volunteers selected from the UK for the Slush Startup Conference, how did this experience contribute to your understanding of the global startup ecosystem?

Slush is a global startup conference that happens every year in Helsinki, Finland wherein founders, investors, innovators, ecosystem players and every startup enthusiast come over to experience the best entrepreneurship conference. As a volunteer, I gained invaluable insights into emerging trends, disruptive technologies, and the importance of collaboration. Networking at Slush taught me the significance of building meaningful connections across borders and industries, highlighting the interconnected nature of the startup world. Additionally, I received an invitation from the Embassy of India in Helsinki for a networking dinner hosted by the Ambassador of India to Finland. Representing the Kerala Startup Ecosystem in Finland was a unique opportunity to highlight entrepreneurial endeavours to the Kerala - Finland Innovation Corridor.

Can you discuss your experience navigating the job market after graduation? How did ULMS support you in finding employment opportunities?

After graduating from ULMS, navigating the job market felt like a daunting journey. However, the support I received from the University was instrumental in easing this transition. ULMS provided resources such as industry expert talks, networking events, and workshops tailored to enhancing my employability skills. The careers team offered guidance in crafting CVs and cover letters, preparing for interviews, and exploring various job opportunities. The academic staff at ULMS also played a pivotal role in my job search journey by offering insightful advice and guidance. Their industry expertise and personalised mentorship were instrumental in identifying suitable job roles and aligning them with my skills and interests.

You have recently started your graduate role as an Alumni Enterprise Advisor at the University of East London. How are you finding the role?

It feels like stepping into the role I have always envisioned for myself. It is a dynamic blend of excitement and challenge, precisely the kind of environment I thrive in. ULMS played a pivotal role in shaping me for this position, offering not just academic knowledge but also practical skills and a resilient mindset. Through engaging in group activities like the University Business Challenge and the We Can Work It Out Consultancy Challenge - these experiences weren't just about academic achievement, they were about learning to work effectively in teams and persist through challenges.

Whether I am collaborating with colleagues or strategising with alumni, I draw upon the collaborative spirit and innovative thinking fostered at ULMS. It is not just about meeting the demands of my graduate role, it is about embracing them with passion and a drive to empower others on their professional journeys.

What are your future career plans?

Right now, I am eager to explore opportunities that allow me to take on new challenges, collaborate with diverse teams, and make a positive impact on society. Whether it is advancing within my current industry, or branching out into new ventures, I am committed to continuous growth and lifelong learning.

What is one piece of advice you have for recent graduates?

Say "yes" to opportunities, even if they seem daunting or unconventional. You are at a pivotal stage in your life where every experience counts. Do not shy away from stepping out of your comfort zone, for it is in those moments of uncertainty that you truly discover your potential. Remember, your story is waiting to unfold, and a simple "yes" could be the brushstroke that paints it extraordinary.
