Teaching Plans 2025/26
Our MBA programmes aim to enhance your leadership acumen, broaden your global outlook and strengthen your employability skills.
Our teaching comprises interactive sessions and experiential learning, including lectures, seminars, virtual reality, simulations and workshops.
Alongside these sessions, our virtual learning environment, Canvas, is designed to enhance your learning experience in the classroom not replace it. Depending on the module we adapt the format best suited to the module content and learning outcomes.
In-person teaching
In-person learning sessions will offer a valuable opportunity to participate in case activities and discussions, interacting with colleagues and academic staff. Typically, this will account for six teaching hours per week for each module over a five-week period. This structure is designed from student feedback.
We all recognise the value of face-to-face interaction in our own day-to-day lives, and how much it can impact our overall wellbeing. This is why you will be expected to attend on-campus sessions because we believe they are an important part of your learning experience while studying your MBA. The more you attend the more you will learn!
Group Working
To support each module, you will participate in group activities and peer-to-peer discussions. We anticipate that these will be completed on-campus, although you may decide to undertake some online utilising platforms like Zoom or MS Teams which everyone will have institutional access to.
The activities will comprise a mix of tasks (e.g. discussion, action planning, scenario planning, preparation of material for class sessions, cases etc) that will enable you to develop effective collaborative learning with peers and deepen your understanding of the programme content. You will be expected to actively participate in these activities, with as much time as you can dedicated to them.
Online learning
In-person teaching will be supported by online materials that offer a greater depth of learning in our classroom environments. Our online resources and directions will prepare you for an effective on-campus face-to-face session where you can then engage and deepen your understanding through active learning activities.
Some resources will be uploaded before or after your face to face sessions and can include: short videos, case studies, quizzes and academic papers and practitioner perspectives for you to work through at a time of your choosing. You can set the pace, go back as many times as you like to topics that you are unsure of, and take breaks as and when needed. Typically, we’d expect you to dedicate at least one hour per module, per week working through these learning materials to ensure you get the most out of the face-to-face sessions and contribute effectively.
Where possible, we also record lectures and upload these onto Canvas so you can go back and review content. However, these are not a substitute for in-class participation as workshops, seminars and tutorials are not recorded given their interactive small group breakout design.
Attendance
We want every student to be able to succeed at the University of Liverpool and attending timetabled teaching activities can play a crucial part in your future academic success.
