Privacy Notice: Patent Enforcement Index (PEI) Dataset Request
Who will own my data once I submit it?
The University of Liverpool will be the data controller for the information you provide in this form.
Why do you need my information?
We collect your information in order to:
- provide you with access to the Patent Enforcement Index (PEI) 1998-2025 dataset
- understand how the dataset is used in research, policy, and professional practice
- support knowledge-exchange activities related to the PEI
- contact you in the future only if you have chosen to give consent regarding your experience of using the dataset
- send you updates about PEI-related analysis and future versions of the Index if you choose to receive these.
Your information helps us understand the reach and use of the PEI and contributes to improving future versions of the dataset.
What allows you to use my information?
We use your information under:
- Article 6(1)(a) of the UK GDPR – Consent, where you choose to:
- receive updates or newsletters about future versions of the PEI
- be contacted in the future regarding your experience of using the dataset.
- Article 6(1)(e) of the UK GDPR – Public task, as the University undertakes research activities carried out in the public interest.
You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting nickp@liverpool.ac.uk.
Who will my information be shared with?
Your information will not be shared outside the University of Liverpool.
Summary, anonymised information may be used internally for research-impact reporting purposes, but no personally identifiable or company-identifiable information will ever be published or shared, and no individual user will be identifiable in any outputs.
Do I have to provide this information and what will happen if I do not?
Providing your information is voluntary. However, we will not be able to grant access to the full dataset unless the required fields are completed.
Optional fields (newsletter subscription or consent for follow-up contact) may be declined without any impact on your ability to access the dataset.
How long will you keep this data for and why?
Your personal data will be kept for up to six years from the date of submission. This supports research evaluation, knowledge-exchange reporting and the long-term tracking of research impact. After this period, your data will be securely deleted.
How will my information be stored?
Your information will be stored securely on University of Liverpool systems with restricted access, in accordance with University data-protection policies.
Will this information be used to take automated decisions about me?
No. Your information will not be used to make automated decisions or to profile you.
Will my data be transferred abroad and why?
Your personal data will be stored within the UK on secure University systems. Dataset files that you download may be hosted on University-approved external platforms, but your personal data will not be transferred outside the UK.
Your Rights
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- The right to subject access – to see a copy of the personal data the University holds about you
- The right to rectification – to ask the University to correct or remove any inaccurate data we hold about you
- The right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”)
- The right to restriction – to ask for your information to be restricted (locked down) on University systems
- The right to data portability – to ask for your data to be transferred back to you or to a new provider
- The right to object – to ask the University to stop using your personal data or stop sending marketing information
- The right to prevent automated decision-making and profiling.
