Welcome to BA Business Economics
Information for students starting study in September 2025
Hello Team Business Economics Year 1!
A warm welcome to all of you joining the BA Business Economics and BA Business Economics with a Year in Industry programmes this September. I'm really looking forward to having you here.
We have organised welcome activities, including programme talks and social sessions. These are excellent opportunities to learn more about your programme, explore your study pathways, ask questions, and begin connecting with your new classmates.
I understand that starting university life can feel a bit different at first, but please know that you'll have a strong support system. As your Director of Studies for BA Business Economics, along with your academic advisor, module leaders, and our dedicated student support officers, I am here to help make your transition as smooth as possible.
My most important piece of advice is to ask for help as soon as you need it. This allows us to address any concerns promptly, before they develop into bigger issues. Remember, consistent attendance at timetabled sessions is crucial for your academic success, so please make sure to attend your classes regularly to get the most out of your university experience.
Finally, I encourage you to truly enjoy your university life here in Liverpool! This is a wonderful time to meet new people who share similar goals and interests.
- Be proactive & get involved: Join a few societies that interest you, whether they're related to your degree, a sport, or a hobby. This is a great way to meet new people, develop leadership skills, and build a strong network. Don't forget the Investment Society, founded by two of our Business Economics students, and the Economics Society. You can join the LinkedIn pages for Business Economics and the Investment Society to follow updates.
- Make memories and enjoy the experience: While your academic success is a top priority, don't forget to have fun and create lasting memories. Go to social events, explore the city, and spend time with your new friends.
- Stay focused: Remember why you're here: to earn a degree and build a foundation for your future career. Attend all your classes, engage with the material, and stay on top of your studies.
If you ever have a question, need support, or feel a bit lost, please don't hesitate to contact me (Y.Sonmez@liverpool.ac.uk) or your academic advisor.
I hope you enjoy your degree and your university experience and create many positive memories that will make you look back on your time at the University of Liverpool with a smile.
I look forward to seeing you on campus soon,
Warm regards,
Yontem

Advice from recent graduates
Namakau Goma, Business Economics:
Top three tips for University:
1. Join a society, play a sport, work a campus job or help out at events. You never know what other opportunities you might discover, and it’s one of the easiest ways to make friends and feel part of the community.
2. Going to lectures and tutorials isn’t just about learning. It’s also how you make friends on the course, and having someone to share notes or a break with makes uni life so much better.
3. Make time for breaks, fun with friends, and the things that make you happy. And if you ever need help with your work, careers advice or anything else, there is plenty of support available, just ask for it.
