A welcoming message
A welcome message from alumnus Andres Soto Soto, an industrial engineer who joined the Liverpool MBA in 2024. Andres now works as a Marketing Intelligence Specialist in Colombia.

Before moving to the UK, I enjoyed a career in Pharmaceutical Industry, working in Merges & Acquisitions, Marketing and Business Strategy roles.
I researched a number of universities before making my choice to study at the University of Liverpool Management School. I was impressed with the School’s triple accreditation, diverse cohort, international study trip, plus the opportunities for hands on learning, and the affordability of the programme.
As well as being a music city (home to the Beatles of course!), Liverpool is a friendly, welcoming and vibrant place with Premier League football clubs, Liverpool FC and Everton FC (with the Reds being the best!!) within easy reach of the city centre. The city also has cuisine from around the world, including Chinatown, one of the world largest communities in the UK – there’s even a Colombian restaurant, so it was lovely to get food from my home country!
With two airports less than an hour away from the city centre, you can travel around Europe using low cost airlines to cities including Paris, Barcelona, Lisbon, Madrid and Milan within 2-3 hours.
My MBA highlights included the a virtual reality session where our cohort took part in a boardroom setting between the merger of two companies. There was also a practical learning project for a client during our study trip to Madrid, a visit to the Jaguar LandRover factory in Liverpool. Finally, the consultancy based project, where I was able to apply everything I’d learnt into a real-world case study.
My advice for you
As you get ready to start your MBA, these are my top tips:
- Your MBA will be over quickly so enjoy and engage in your studies. Get to know colleagues, the MBA staff and where you can, take part in extra-curricular activities
- If you can, find accommodation near the University and close to grocery stores. Although Liverpool is a small city, living nearby can help you save money on transportation and increase your quality of life
- Be prepared for some tough days, particularly in winter!
- Finally, explore the city, the UK and the world!
I wish you the best with your studies!
Andres
