Will Bevis: BSc Economics
Will chose to study BSc Economics at the University of Liverpool Management School for its broad career prospects and real-world relevance. Now, he is preparing to begin a 13-month placement with pensions and investment consultancy Isio, gaining valuable industry experience before graduation.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Liverpool Management School?
When I visited the University on an open day, I was immediately impressed with the resources and support the university provides, such as the Bloomberg Suite and ULMS Extra events.
Why did you want to study BSc Economics?
I wanted to study BSc Economics as it’s a very broad subject, allowing me to go into many different career paths after I graduate.
It is also incredibly relevant to the real-world, with me being able to link real-world events to topics that we cover in the modules.
Where are you going to be spending your Year in Industry placement?
Starting in June, I will be joining the Pensions Administration team at

What skills have you developed?
I have developed a range of valuable skills, including public speaking through my role as a student ambassador, which has strengthened my confidence in communicating with diverse audiences.
Moving to a new city has also fostered a strong sense of independence and adaptability.
Additionally, my academic work has enhanced my research and analytical abilities, particularly through engaging with academic papers and conducting in-depth project work.
What support and extra opportunities have you accessed to help you with your studies?
The University of Liverpool offers numerous extra opportunities, such as volunteering you can do through the Guild, and becoming a course representative.
ULMS Extra events have been incredibly helpful in developing my employability skills. In particular, the Anfield Mock Assessment Centre provided me with valuable professional skills. The alumni and careers evenings have provided useful insights into the range of career pathways available to me.
What have you enjoyed most about your student experience?
Joining the university’s Korfball Club was one of the best decisions I’ve made at university, as it has allowed me to meet so many amazing people and make some great memories.
One of my highlights has been going to Valencia on tour with the team. I also loved competing at BUCS.
Having more freedom has pushed me to be more independent.
What have you enjoyed most about living as a student in Liverpool?
Moving to Liverpool from a small village in the South of England has been a big but exciting change, and I’ve really enjoyed everything the city has to offer.
There’s an endless choice of restaurants to explore, alongside a vibrant nightlife that makes student life really fun.
I also loved being close to Sefton Park in my first year while living in Greenbank student accommodation.
What are your future career goals?
I’m still exploring my future career goals, as my degree opens up a wide range of opportunities.
At the moment, I’m looking forward to seeing how my placement experience shapes my interests and helps guide my next steps.
