A group picture of both alumni and current students at a mixture of Economics panel sessions

Undergraduate economics students engaged with alumni, current students and industry professionals at events focused on placements, graduate careers and progression.

'She' in Economics panel session:

'She' in Economics is led by Dr Yontem Sonmez, who is also Director of Studies for our BA Business Economics and BA Economics programmes. Supported by a grant from the University of Liverpool's Alumni and Friends Fund, members benefit from guest lectures, employability events and growing their professional networks.

The groups first panel session of semester two featured interesting speakers, including:

  • Dr Kaori Narita, who spoke about building a career in research and academia
  • BA Business Economics alumna Hattie Norman, an Investment Banking Analyst at Lazard, reflected on her journey from placement student to finance professional
  • Final year BA Business Economics, Year in Industry student Leah Talisman shared her experiences of applying to placement positions and preparing for interviews for graduate roles
  • BSc Economics student, Melissa Crumpton, discussed securing a 12-month Audit Placement with Cooper Parry, encouraging attendees to stay resilient throughout the application process and focus on roles aligned with their strengths.

Economics Careers and Alumni Evening:

At the Economics Careers and Alumni evening, students got practical advice on navigating competitive recruitment processes from a range of speakers, including:

  • Will Bevis, a final year BSc Economics student, who shared his experience gaining a placement with Isio, which he will start in September 2026
  • BSc Economics alumnus Joseph Douglas and BA Business Economics alumna Lucy Charnock reflected on their transitions from studying to roles in accountancy and government economics
