The extra-curricular opportunities have been a highlight of my experience they are a great way to get more involved at University and make new friends. I am extremely grateful as I have had so many amazing experiences that I would never have had without being a student at the University of Liverpool Management School (ULMS).

Top three tips for University:

  1. Be prepared and identify what you need to do each week in order to keep on top of your workload. It can be difficult to get back on track once you start to fall behind. The Management School has its own Support Office which you can visit or contact online should you need additional assistance
  2. Try something new, this is the perfect opportunity and there’s so much to get involved in! There is a vast array of clubs, societies and extracurricular activities such as ULMS Extra providing plenty of options
  3. Enjoy it, and do what makes you happy. The workload may seem a lot sometimes so it’s important to make time to do things you enjoy outside of your course.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Liverpool Management School?

The Management School as well as being a highly accredited institution also provides a friendly atmosphere to learn in. There are a range of opportunities available to connect with staff and other students, with support always there if you need it.

I can remember talking with students when I attended an Open Day and I felt I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunities they had.

The industry connections that the Management School offers are also important to me, as this is hugely helpful in gaining insight into industries and acquiring practical knowledge.

Why did you choose your course?

Business has always been something I found interesting when studying for my A Levels. Before University I wasn’t certain about what my goals were and even took a gap year to give myself more time to decide.

I realised International Business would provide a great opportunity to develop a wide range of knowledge and skills and could lead to a broad choice of future paths.

The course touches on all business areas and puts them into a global context, while also learning about current global trends and influences on businesses.

What skills have you developed?

Networking is a really important skill that I’ve developed. I now have the confidence to reach out to industry professionals to seek advice and ask questions, which has been helpful in making decisions on my future career.

The numerous group projects that I have been involved in as part of my course have also developed my communication and teamwork skills.

What surprised you the most about the University of Liverpool Management School?

The community! As such a large school, I thought I would just be one of the hundreds of students, but I have been able to build meaningful connections with staff and students, along with ULMS alumni.

I have had opportunities to contribute greatly to the Management School outside of my course and really feel like part of the ULMS community.

Why did you choose to become a student ambassador?

I remember it being such a daunting process when I started looking at universities. Becoming a Student Ambassador has meant that I can help others just starting to consider the difficult decision of where and what to study.

I also believe it is important to be able to speak to students directly about their experiences as I can offer some insight into what life is like at ULMS and share my knowledge with prospective students.

How have you found the learning experience?

The learning experience has had its challenges, with nearly two years of online learning due to COVID but lecturers were very supportive during that difficult time including over the last year with the return to on-campus learning.

Studying at university is a great change from school-style learning, as the focus is not only on succeeding in exams but you are encouraged to understand what you are learning and challenging the ideas that lecturers present to you, making for a more interesting learning experience.

What have you enjoyed about living in Liverpool?

Liverpool is an amazing city to live in, there’s always something to see and do! I have had some amazing experiences while living in the city with highlights such as attending a football match at Anfield as well as attending some of the citywide events such as the River of Light.

Living in a globally prominent city is a unique opportunity which has so many interesting places to visit, and with so many social events happening all the time it’s a brilliant location for student life.

What have you enjoyed most about your student experience?

The extra-curricular opportunities have been a highlight of my experience. I have been involved with the Business Management Society committee for two years, organising lots of events for members including our end-of-year black-tie formal.

Extra-curricular activities are a great way to get more involved at university and make new friends. I am extremely grateful as I have had so many amazing experiences that I would never have had without being a student at ULMS.

What are your future career goals?

I am hoping to continue at the Management School to pursue my Master’s degree but my career goal is to enter the sports industry, focusing on marketing, events, and communications. I aspire to work across the industry, particularly in football and motorsports.

With sports being a global industry, the International Business course has provided the perfect foundation to pursue my career goals.
