Why did you decide to study an MBA?
My decision was driven by a long-held personal dream and a strategic professional need.
Since starting my career, I set a goal to attend an MBA at a world-reputed university before the age of 30. I am proud to say that I am now achieving that milestone here in Liverpool.
My path to this programme was not traditional. I started from a humble beginning in my previous company, and over five years, I was promoted step-by-step with the invaluable guidance of my Group General Manager (Direct Supervisor) and Group Managing Director. It was during my second year of work that I truly discovered my passion for the commercial and support side of the business.
Because my academic background was in Mechanical Engineering, I lacked a formal professional foundation in commercial management. I spent years learning 'on the job,' but I reached a point where I wanted to link my real-world professional experience with rigorous academic theories.
Why did you choose the Management School?
To gain deeper academic insights and develop a clearer vision for my post-MBA career.
The school’s reputation for developing leaders was a major factor, especially through opportunities like the Future Leader Programme, where I currently serve as a representative.
Being awarded a 50% scholarship was a decisive factor that encouraged me to join this specific cohort, as it validated my potential and made this prestigious program accessible at exactly the right time in my life.
What aspects of the MBA programme have you enjoyed most so far?
A highlight has been my appointment as a Future Leader Programme Representative for the MBA cohort. This role allows me to actively contribute to the School's community and develop leadership initiatives.
Beyond the formal roles, the true heart of the programme has been the intellectual discussions and debates within the classroom.
Coming from a technical background, engaging with a diverse group of professionals has challenged my perspectives and broadened my strategic thinking. There is a strong culture of 'helping hands' within our cohort; whether we are tackling complex theories or preparing for presentations, the support we offer one another is invaluable.
The study trip to Lisbon was a fantastic experience. It offered practical insights into international business dynamics and provided the perfect setting to strengthen the bonds within our student community, moving our debates from the classroom into a real-world, global context.
What skills or knowledge do you feel you’ve developed since starting the MBA?
Firstly, strategic and holistic business vision.
While I have experience in commercial and support roles, the MBA has taught me to look at business through a holistic lens rather than just project-by-project. This has been essential in shifting my perspective from a Mechanical Engineering focus to a global management mindset.
Secondly, immediate application of theory.
Developing the ability to apply academic frameworks to real-world scenarios immediately. This allows me to use my current assignments to analyse my previous business ideas and commercial challenges, turning theoretical knowledge into actionable strategies.
What advice would you give to someone considering studying an MBA at Liverpool?
If you want to wear a crown, bear the crown; this programme shows you where that crown is and enlightens you on which one fits your head.
If you want to bridge the gap between your practical experience and high-level strategic thinking, it is the perfect way to progress as a leader.
What has been a highlight of your MBA experience so far?
The study trip to Lisbon was a fantastic experience that provided practical insights into international business dynamics and strengthened the professional and personal bonds within our student community.
Becoming more attached to my peers during the trip has strengthened our professional and personal bonds, creating a supportive environment where we can engage with a sense of genuine connection and 'helping hands'.
What are you enjoying most about living in Liverpool?
I love taking walks around the Albert Dock, where the maritime heritage and the waterfront views provide a great sense of inspiration and relaxation away from my studies.
I also find Liverpool Cathedral to be a truly magnificent landmark; its architecture is stunning and offers a peaceful place for reflection.
