Oliver Byron: UK
Before starting the Football Industries MBA, I had worked in the football industry for seven years. During that time, I gained valuable experience and insight into the operational side of the game and developed a strong interest in the wider business of football.

Why did you decide to study an MBA at this point in your career?
I decided to study an MBA because I believe you should never stop learning. After several years working in the football industry, I felt it was the right time to return to education and further develop my knowledge.
Why did you choose the Management School?
I chose the University of Liverpool Management School because of its excellent reputation and because the Football Industries MBA felt like the perfect fit.
After considering several options, Liverpool stood out as the programme that best matched my interests and career goals.
What aspects of the MBA programme have you enjoyed most so far?
I’ve enjoyed all aspects of the programme so far. The course has been very insightful and has given us the opportunity to explore areas of the football industry that are not always accessible.
The study trip to Lisbon has been a particular highlight, providing valuable insights into the international side of the game and a great experience with the rest of the cohort.
What skills or knowledge do you feel you’ve developed since starting the MBA?
Since starting the MBA, the programme has encouraged me to think more strategically and strengthened my critical thinking skills. I’ve also significantly increased my knowledge of key areas such as football finance and marketing.
These insights have been extremely valuable and are already helping me in my day-to-day role.
What advice would you give to someone considering studying an MBA at Liverpool?
I would highly recommend the MBA at Liverpool. The programme is supported by a fantastic team who are always on hand to help, and it offers a great opportunity to learn from and engage with your peers.
The experience allows you to gain new knowledge while also benefiting from the perspectives and experiences of others in the course.
What do you do when not studying?
Outside of studying, life is often busy with family. As a father of three, I spend a lot of time acting as “Dad’s taxi,” driving my daughters to different activities.
When I do get some free time, I enjoy eating out and, of course, watching or being involved in football.
How do you balance your MBA studies with work and life commitments?
Balancing work, study, and family commitments was something I initially expected to be challenging, but with good planning, it has been manageable.
I set aside dedicated study time on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, as well as Sunday afternoons. Having these structured study periods helps me stay on top of the workload while balancing everything else.
