Centre for Sustainable Business (CSB) Director, Professor Jo Meehan, has been nominated for the Net Zero 50 2025 list for her outstanding contribution to achieving Net Zero in the UK.
Organised by Digital Leaders and supported by partners CGI and Green Business Journal, in its fourth year, the list continues the original goal of promoting discussion on the role of individuals helping make Net Zero a reality in the UK.
The nomination recognises Jo’s and the CSB members’ efforts to create a community of sustainable business, through innovative 'business-not-as-usual' research, including social value, non-financial accounting, governance and modern slavery, with real impact for organisations and policymaking.
This includes, supporting the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority in shaping their Social Value Framework and contributing to substantial changes to Government guidance on the reporting obligations set out in Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and the launch of their Shaping Sustainable Futures executive education course.
"Being recognised on the Net Zero leaders list is testament to the importance of the work of our Centre and to the many ways we engage with businesses, community groups and policymakers, to translate research into practical action and inspire the radical change needed to address the interconnected crises our world faces," said Jo.
As the number of potential winners increases every year, in 2025 the search for the new Net Zero 50 starts with a longer than usual list of 100 finalists, from public sector pioneers to community champions and business innovators.
Jo is the only sustainability leader from Liverpool to make the top 100 list, which includes representatives from all over the UK and high profile names like Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband.
The final 50 shortlist will be shaped via public vote and the decisions of a panel of judges, and announced alongside the sector winners plus the overall winner on Friday 28th November at the House of Lords.
Digital Leaders encourage anyone who would like to have their say on the final 50, to cast their votes for the individuals who inspire them most, and help spotlight the changemakers leading the way to Net Zero.
