The Centre for Sports Business was delighted to welcome Dr Nicolas Scelles for a guest research seminar at the University of Liverpool Management School.

Dr Scelles, who teaches Sports Business Analytics and Sports Economics at Manchester Metropolitan University, delivered his seminar on the impact of Financial Fair Play (FFP) on competitive balance in football to an audience of students and Centre colleagues.

Dr Scelles' core expertise focuses on competitive balance and competitive intensity, key topics in sports economics and the broader sport management field.

"Nicolas is one of the leading sports economists in the UK so it was a pleasure to welcome him to Liverpool and to the Centre for Sports Business," said Professor Geoff Walters, the Centre's Director since 2024.

"His ongoing research on FFP and competitive balance is extremely interesting. While the aims of FFP are to improve the financial stability of clubs across Europe, Nicolas showed that we also need to consider the impact on competitive balance which is essential to any sporting competition.

"His findings are of real relevance to UEFA and other sports leagues that oversee financial regulations."
