ULMS and the Centre for Sports Business will host the annual PSA Sport and Politics conference in 2026

The University of Liverpool Management School and the Centre for Sports Business are pleased to be hosting the Political Studies Association Sport and Politics annual conference on 4 and 5 June 2026.

The theme of the conference is ‘Political governance and the reshaping of the sports industry’.

The conference will focus on the role of government in influencing and shaping the evolving nature of the sports industry and seeks to better understand the interplay and evolving dynamics between sport and politics.

The Centre for Sports Business invites abstracts that discuss the political involvement in the governance and regulation of sport from a variety of disciplinary perspectives.

Possible themes include, but are not limited to:

  • International and national sport governance
  • Global governance and institutional integrity
  • Challenges to sports autonomy
  • The role of regulatory authorities in sport
  • Soft power and geopolitics
  • Sport diplomacy and foreign policy
  • Social justice and athlete activism
  • Sport and human rights 
  • Environmental sustainability.

 

Call for abstracts: Please submit your abstract (250 words maximum) to Professor Geoff Walters by Friday 30 January 2026 at G.R.Walters@liverpool.ac.uk.
