The University of Liverpool Management School offers you the chance to explore your own ideas through our postgraduate research programmes. The objective of the programme is to develop an understanding and critical appreciation of alternative approaches, methodologies and paradigms of research in the field of business and management. In order to achieve this, you will demonstrate independent learning in the production of quality research projects to advance your knowledge and understanding through the use of critical analysis and interpretation.
The Economics and Finance PhD places much emphasis on the area of mathematics and has been designed particularly for those students who wish to study within the fields of Economics, Financial Economics, or Finance, potentially pursuing a career in academia. The programme is also an excellent opportunity for students who may wish to pursue a more professional mode of career development, for instance working within international organisations or research institutes.
Our (MRes) Management is designed to develop high calibre research students versed in building theory and all aspects of investigating business and management practice. The programme provides grounding for those intending to expand their studies into a PhD across business and management disciplines. If successful in gaining a PhD place, students will not be required to complete the relevant subject specific management modules as these will have been completed as part of the MRes.
We have a vibrant and active community of research students in the School pursuing a vast range of topics and as a member of the North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (NWSSDTP) we offer excellent support for our research students. The NWDTC is the largest Economic and Social Research Centre (ESRC) funded doctoral training centre in England and brings together The University of Liverpool with the Universities of Lancaster and Manchester. Through the NWDTC you will have access to research expertise across Liverpool, Manchester and Lancaster, allowing you to take advantage of a variety of experts, seminars and workshops.
The Northern Advanced Research Training Initiative (NARTI) is a network of leading research-based University Business & Management Schools from across the North of England. The University of Liverpool Management School is a member which allows us to provide specialist events, conferences and seminars for our PhD students. Through the NARTI network you will be able to meet with others, share experiences and gain from the combined expertise across the group.
engage@liverpool is a cross-faculty initiative offering research methods and methodology support. engage@liverpool organise a range of research methods related events including talks, workshops, clinics and conferences.
Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a partnership between the University of Liverpool and Xi'an Jiaotong University in China. XJTLU currently have scholarships open for applications in the areas of: Stochastic Behaviour, Term Structure and Margin Adequacy in VIX Futures Market and Entrepreneurial Orientation.
