The Centre for Sports Business' very own football finance expert Kieran Maguire brought his hugely successful podcast The Price of Football back to the University of Liverpool for another exciting live edition alongside his co-host, the comedian, writer and sports presenter Kevin Day.

After a whistle-stop tour of current football finance topics such as the FIFA World Cup, Chelsea's record losses and the demise of Sheffield Wednesday, Kieran and Kevin were joined by two special guests who they interviewed in front of a 350-strong audience at the Yoko Ono Lennon Centre as part of the University of Liverpool Management School's Enhance Week.

First was Giulia Bould, the broadcaster best known for her work with BBC Sport Merseyside, 5 Live and at Everton FC on matchdays. She spoke candidly about her experience as a woman in a heavily male-dominated profession, living with Addison's Disease, and risking her whole career to make her own award-winning podcast series, Everton: Nothing Will Be The Same.

Next, Peter Hooton, lead singer of The Farm and vice-chair of Liverpool FC supporters union Spirit of Shankly, provided a brief history of the Reds' financial journey, from competing with the 'Mersey Millionaires' of 1960s Everton, to ownership struggles that brought the club to the brink of administration in 2010.

There was also time for an interactive quiz curated by the Management School's Jason Laws, and an extensive Q&A session, as the hosts answered a range of questions covering Leicester City's points deduction to the financial crisis enveloping Chinese football.

Speaking after the event, Kieran said: "It was great to see and hear the experiences of both sides of the city with Giulia representing Evertonians and Peter Liverpool.

"We loved presenting the show and it's a sign of the level of interest in the subject matter that so many people came out on a cold and damp Monday evening to listen to almost three hours of football finance chat."

This was the third occasion that The Price of Football live show has been hosted at the University. Previous guest speakers have included The Athletic's Matt Slater, Castore's co-founder Tom Beahon, and Alan Myers of Sky Sports News.

Enhance Week comes as part of the Management School's Enhancement Programme, which is a development programme for master's students.

New episodes of The Price of Football podcast are released twice a week and are available on all major listening platforms.
