Our campus based and online Football Industries MBA (FIMBA) students were welcomed to the STōK Cae Ras, the home of Wrexham AFC on 12th November. Our football club visits provide exciting behind the scenes access to club executives, allowing our students to link their studies to the executive’s real world experiences of working in the football industry.
Wrexham AFC have seen an unprecedented rise to The Championship (second tier of English football) for its men’s team with back-to-back-to-back promotion from the National League, supported by its US owners (Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney). The Disney+ documentary series Welcome to Wrexham has seen the club achieve global fame in the United States, and our students were given first hand insight into the club’s progress off the pitch.

Wrexham AFC’s Aidan Miller, Strategy and Projects Director, talked to the students about the growth and success of the club following the takeover. Areas covered included:
- how the club are increasing the capacity of the stadium, ensuring they maintain the right balance between general and premium admissions
- the challenges faced with complying with the governing bodies to obtain the appropriate licences.
As well as the expansion of the stadium, students also heard about the plans to develop the Wrexham AFC women’s team, the growth of the academy and the improvements to the club’s training facilities.

Sharing feedback on the day, FIMBA student, Luigi Pavia explains:
The whole day in Wrexham was both enjoyable and interesting. Aidan (Miller) gave us a really warm welcome and it was fascinating to hear about all the changes the club has gone through in recent years, their plans for the near future (especially for the stadium) and everything they need to consider for the work to move forward, from league rules to strategic decisions and more.”
We thank Aidan and the team at Wrexham FC, wishing them well for the rest of the season as they chase their dream of the men’s team joining the Premier League elite and the women’s team competing in Europe.
For our students, attention now switches to the next football club visit at Manchester City's Etihad stadium in February 2026.
