Five final-year undergraduate students spoke at this event, sharing their Year in Industry experiences with current students.

Attendees got lots of insight, advice and tips to help them with their own placement applications.

The student speakers included:

  • Omid Hariri- Accounting and Finance with a Year in Industry, spent placement year as an Audit Associate at Deloitte
  • Francesca Southern- Business Management with a Year in Industry, spent placement year as a Consultancy Assistant at BMW
  • Jess Williamson- Business Management with a Year in Industry, spent placement year as a Banking leader at The Co-operative Bank
  • Bella Phipps-Castro- Business Management with a Year in Industry, spent placement year as a Mobility Strategy and Solutions Assistant at Bosch
  • Jack Newton- International Business with a Year in Industry, spent placement year as a Project Co-ordinator at Primark.

Reflecting on their placements, students said they were treated as equal employees and given real responsibility early on.

Highlights included enhancing networking skills by meeting people across the business, working in different departments, attending social events, and even travelling overseas.

Coming back to university, students said that the structure and responsibility from placement helped them develop a stronger work ethic and more focus for final year. They also find it easier to link real experiences to academic theory.
