The Management School recently hosted a careers evening for BSc Economics and BA Business Economics students.
This event focused on employability, placements, and career development for current undergraduate students studying our economics programmes.
Students had the chance to meet with an employability adviser for help with placement opportunities, applications, CVs, cover letters, and mock interviews.
The evening also featured a presentation on career destinations and useful resources to support job and placement searches.
A highlight of the evening was the alumni and student panel, where recent graduates and placement students shared their career journeys, experiences, and top tips for job and placement hunting.
Speakers included:
- Harry Bracewell, a final year BA Business Economics student, who completed his placement year as a Global Beauty and Wellbeing Customer Strategy Planning Executive at Unilever
- Paul Ariss, a final year BSc Economics student, who undertook his placement year in Corporate Services with the NHS
- Ilias Derradji, a BA Business Economics graduate, now working as a Tax Analyst at Deloitte
- Natalie Grant, a BSc Economics graduate, currently a Finance Graduate Trainee at Bidfood UK
- Jack Small, a BA Business Economics graduate, now working as a Personal Finance Coach at WEALTH at Work
- Nathan Nolan, a BA Business Economics and MSc Economics graduate, Entrepreneur and Founder of The Gamers Lodge, and Co-Founder of Vendi Tech.
“We were delighted with the positive feedback from current students who attended our recent Economics Careers and Alumni event. The excellent mix of speakers offered our current cohort invaluable sector-spanning insights and led to productive networking opportunities afterwards. Students were especially pleased to learn that Paul Ariss secured his NHS placement after attending this event himself the year before—underscoring the value of these connections.” Director of Studies for BA Business Economics, Dr Yontem Sonmez.
The evening closed with networking, giving students the chance to speak directly with alumni and returning placement students from a range of industries.
Events like this highlight the strong career support available at the Management School, combining expert guidance, employability resources, and a vibrant global alumni network to help students take confident next steps in their careers.
