Eamon Butterfield: BA Business Management with a Year in Industry
Eamon chose BA Business Management for the flexibility it offered and the wide range of career opportunities it could unlock. After completing a Year in Industry placement with a business consultancy firm in Belfast, he has returned to Liverpool with greater confidence, valuable professional experience, and ambitions to build a career in finance, consulting, or entrepreneurship.
Why did you choose to study at the University of Liverpool Management School?
I chose the University of Liverpool Management School as it possesses a good reputation and is a Russell Group university.
Apart from this, I went in without much other knowledge about the University- it is safe to say that my risk paid off!
Why did you want to study BA Business Management?
The course appealed to me mainly because of its wide range of modules.
Finishing my A-levels, I knew I wanted to ‘do something businessy’, and this degree has opened so many doors for me.
Where did you go for your Year in Industry placement?
A small business consultancy firm in Belfast called Full Circle Management Solutions, focusing on tailored mentoring support for SME businesses.
What skills have you developed?
I developed great commercial and communication skills, speaking with and supporting our clients daily.
It has allowed me to come back for my final year a lot more confident personally and professionally.
What support and extra opportunities have you accessed to help you with your studies?
Attending tailored ULMS Extra activities has really helped in supporting specific needs at specific times for me, whether it be organising a CV or referencing support, they cover A LOT over the course of a year and are very helpful.
Additionally, reaching out to Management School support or Module Lecturers has gone a long way in enhancing my academic experience here.
What have you enjoyed most about your student experience?
I couldn’t possibly just name one thing; the city, the university, the people are all second to none- I couldn’t recommend the whole package anymore to prospective students.
What have you enjoyed most about living as a student in Liverpool?
The size of the city means that as a student, it's small enough to get around everywhere on foot or at most a short bus journey and big enough that there is always something going on and to throw yourself into the deep end with. Genuinely the perfect balance.
What are your future career goals?
I would love to start a career in finance or consulting, and hopefully one day start my own business using all the knowledge I am accumulating!
