After studying Languages at A-Level, Anna decided to study BA Business Management. Alongside her studies, she has built valuable professional skills through extracurricular opportunities and is preparing to begin a Summer Internship with Barclays.
Why did you choose to study at the University of Liverpool Management School?
I was particularly drawn to the University of Liverpool Management School due to its strong reputation and well-recognised industry connections. Upon visiting the School itself, internally it felt warm and inviting, whilst externally having a modern and business-like feel.
I found the Management School unique in the sense that it offered a wide range of modules to suit your own strengths.
The lecturers were genuinely interested in me and my academic journey and explained how studying here could enhance my experience and prospects.
Why did you want to study BA Business Management?
I studied Languages at A-Level, with my motivation throughout exams being that one day I can use my skills to become successful in the business industry.
Studying Business Management at university felt like the next step. The course stood out to me because it accentuated the “management” elements of business, which really appealed to me and felt relevant to my career ambitions.
Having never studied Business before, I embraced the challenge and honestly cannot believe how much I love my course- this also motivated me to become a Student Ambassador for the programme!
What skills have you developed?
The Management School hosts extra-curricular sessions on a weekly basis, all designed to develop new and existing skills. I have learnt how to network, practice presenting and how to optimise my LinkedIn.
The core modules in the first year allowed me to develop confidence in maths, which I didn’t have before going to university.
What support and extra opportunities have you accessed to help you with your studies?
If ever I have felt like I needed extra guidance before beginning an essay, or follow-up feedback on exam results, I have always felt comfortable contacting my lecturer!
What have you enjoyed most about your student experience?
A pivotal point of my student experience has most definitely been joining the Women in Business society.
Being part of a society allowed me to connect with other like-minded students who shared the same interests and form new friendships.
My confidence has grown, and the roles and responsibilities I have had have given me a sense of autonomy.
What have you enjoyed most about living as a student in Liverpool?
Liverpool is the perfect student city! Everything is within walking distance, which can reduce what you spend on bus fares. It has so many pubs and bars to choose from, so many shops, and so many study spots.
It is very easy to fill your days whilst living in Liverpool, with a visit to the docks or to Sefton Park, you have so many options! The running routes are amazing, and I recently took part in the Liverpool Half Marathon!
What are your future career goals?
I’m looking forward to exploring my study options in my final year, with lots of optional modules to choose from.
I will be starting my Summer Internship as a Retail Banking Analyst with Barclays soon, which will help me explore some of the options available to me after graduation.
I aspire to develop a career in which I am seen as knowledgeable and reliable- someone colleagues can turn to for guidance and solutions!
