Widening participation

The School of Medicine is committed to increasing widening participation for its programmes in line with the Medical School Council’s Selecting for Excellence report. This aims to provide a body of evidence which medical schools can use to ensure that they are selecting candidates who will make excellent doctors – no matter their backgrounds.

The University of Liverpool has an excellent reputation in terms of widening participation, and the School of Medicine’s recruitment procedures and outreach activity reflect this, supporting the Liverpool’s Scholars Programme and partaking in the Realising Opportunities Group.

Working with the Health and Life Sciences Faculty, as well as the wider University, the School of Medicine provides a number of summer schools and school outreach activities, including Destination Medicine and the Merseyside Young Medics Programme.
