What's new on Stream?
Computing Services have updated the University's video lecture viewing platform, Stream, to improve usability, speed and storage.
In the 2018/2019 academic year, over 17 000 lectures were viewed 3.9 million times on Stream.
This 21% increase in the number of views and a 40% increase in the number of lectures viewed confirms the value of this service and the importance of maintaining it in order to meet student needs.
In June, the Computing Services Department carried out a number of upgrades to the service which have resulted in faster playback, new functionality, and a modern, easy-to-use interface.
More playing, less buffering
Due to a more efficient backend preloading of videos, buffering has decreased by 20% so less time will be spent waiting for the answers you're looking for.
10 seconds of your life back
No more scrolling through the video's timeline to find the bit you missed; this new feature allows you to skip the video back by 10 seconds at a time so you can easily pick up where you left off.
Speed
Changes to the way we store Stream content have resulted in improved speeds when uploading and viewing content on the platform.
We hope these upgrades will enhance our students' learning experience as we strive to keep improving the service.
