Revised Professionalism Policy

Published on

The revised School of Medicine Professionalism Policy has been launched this week (commencing 25th March 2019). This is being introduced as a pilot to the end of this academic year.

The revision to the policy is part of the wider work at the School of Medicine to better support all students during their medical school journey. We recognise that earlier identification and management of any issues related to progress, conduct and wellbeing are key to help support our students and improve their outcomes and educational experience.

The School takes a holistic view of each student’s journey through the MBChB programme.

The Commendation process has been revised to optimise consistency and fairness for the process.

The Professionalism policy has been revised to incorporate student comments to minimise overlap, reduce ambiguity and clarify the process as well as additions of sections on student support.

The revised policy also includes a new, more clear recording and monitoring system for any lapses in professionalism.

During the pilot introduction all the Professionalism forms will be reviewed; any changes required will be made to then operationalize this as a formal policy for the new academic year (2019/20).
