Student Doctor Published in Paediatric Journal

Congratulations to Nikita Bhoombla, who has had an article that she worked on published in Paediatric Drugs 2020.

Whilst collecting data for her RS3, Nikita Bhoombla's convener, Dr Dan Hawcutt, identified a gap in the availble information surrounding the project. Dr Hawcutt encouraged Nikita to continue data gathering in addition to the research she'd completed for her project, leading to many weekends spent at Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

Nikita worked with Alder Hey's Patient and Public Involvement Team, alongside the Young Persons Group, and hosted a workshop at an Edinburgh conference for the International Children’s Advisory Summit, in order to gather as much data as she could. She then went on to share her research and poster presentation at the British Pharmacology Society conference.

After sharing the information gathered with the MHRA, they set up a group to analyse the outcomes of this work and look at how it could be implemented nationally.

The outcome is that now, as a Year 4 Student Doctor, Nikita’s work has been published as part of a paper, Pharmacovigilance Reports Received from Children and Young People, and Development of Information to Aid Future Reporting from this Age Group, which you can read online via Springer Link.

Nikita told us:

Despite my original project not being something I was really interested in, I think it’s great to just get stuck into any project that comes your way. I was lucky to have such a supportive, encouraging and inspiring convener.
