prize winners and leadership pose for a group photo at prize evening
Professor Andy McKeown at Prize Evening

As the nights close in and we draw closer to the end of semester and calendar year, it is heartening to see so many of you lighting up the School at events outside of your usual academic hours. Your demonstrations of the potential of the power of the ‘Student Doctor’ are manifest in this newsletter. You have immense power (and privilege) to influence our health service and wider community; your acts of service and leadership continue to grow from strength to strength.

One such example of how you as students drive the School forward was our recent Prize Evening. It was an honour to meet all of the students who won prizes, representing a myriad of ways students contribute, be that academically, clinically or in wider aspects of patient need. Certainly, the evening was a highlight of my time at Liverpool so far.

There are so many wonderful articles to read in this month’s newsletter. There are some fantastic examples of reflection on the pathway to becoming a Doctor in the region, to examples of students presenting research and scholarship in areas of interest. It’s also wonderful to spotlight our wonderful staff, every now and again. I was drawn to the heights Justin managed to scale for a worthy cause on a chilly, windy day in October. Also, do check out Lisa’s article on her work supporting you at Arrowe Park Hospital. It is a helpful reminder of the work that goes into providing you with a high-quality experience.

I look forward to seeing more of you in more events over the closing weeks of the year.

Andy
