Did you know you can receive official accreditation for your extra-curricular achievements?

Your accomplishments outside the MBChB Programme reflect the well-rounded, multi-faceted and excellent medical professionals you are setting out to become, and HEAR accreditation is a way to officially recognise this.

Alongside modern teaching techniques and early clinical exposure to a wide range of leading healthcare institutes, the School offers countless additional extra-curricular possibilities to work on your personal development, expand your skillset and grow professionally and personally.

The many of you who choose to undertake these activities with gusto are not only enriching your student experience at University, but choosing to record this can also prove valuable in building your CV and portfolio for your future medical career.

Many of these activities qualify for HEAR accreditation, which means they are then reflected in your HEAR - Higher Education Achievement report - which is a comprehensive record of all your university achievements.

What is HEAR accreditation?

When you graduate, you will be given access to the Graduation Documents Portal, where you can view and share your HEAR.

At the School, a number of official schemes and programmes come with HEAR accreditation. Many of our students work with the Admissions Team to participate in Open Days, Applicant Discovery Days and other events for prospective students, including Widening Participation initiatives.

Similarly, each year around 90 students take on the role of Peer Mentor to welcome and support Year One students as they settle into their studies and the School community. Many medical society activities also qualify for HEAR accreditation.

School Prizes run annually and are a celebration of excellence in various areas across the MBChB curriculum.

Whether it's for performance in a knowledge or clinical assessment, passion and understanding of a particular theme, or for being a true advocate for the School (as voted for by your peers). Each award comes with an official School certificate, cash prize and HEAR record.

As you finish off this academic year and (maybe!) look to the next, consider the ways in which you can boost your medical CV with a HEAR report that reflects your interests and commitments. Whether that be submitting an entry for a School Prize this academic year, or by acting as a mentor or School ambassador next year. The opportunities are there for you to seize!
