Liverpool’s Victoria Building courtyard, with golden-orange trees and the clock tower

The academic year is in full swing. For many of you just joining the School and University way of life, or having returned from summer break, it may feel like you have not stopped to draw breath, so I am hopeful that you are seeking support from friends and staff members and taking some time to enjoy the wonderful surroundings in our great city. From the looks of the articles within the newsletter, it seems like many of you are managing this with aplomb!

As I take up a new role in leadership, I am mindful of the great opportunities being a Student Doctor can bring, including significant formal roles in leadership and impactful collaborations with charitable organisations. It is heartening to see that so many students find different ways to serve the community that surrounds us, even serving our country more formally within the armed forces. Such rich diversity of service is what makes the local region of medical professionals so special (I would say that, wouldn’t I?). You as Student Doctors are a key part of that team.

It’s been very pleasing to meet so many of you over the past few weeks and I have been so grateful to all the wonderful staff and students who have made me feel so welcome already. This newsletter is a fantastic way to keep up to date with everything that makes the Medical School such a vibrant hub. I am grateful to everyone who has shared their experiences to bring this edition together.
