Liverpool student doctors have been helping raise awareness (and thousands of pounds!) this October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, including a pink-tastic ‘Booby Ball’ charity event.
This month, we’ve seen the Liverpool Medics Rugby team don pink for training sessions and Liverpool Oncology Society spread helpful reminders about the importance of self-checking in the quest to promote screening and prevention of the disease, which affects 2.3 million women worldwide.

Student Doctors, and Booby Ball organisers, Leona Paykazadi, Zoe Peterson, Charlotte Graham and Olivia McWilliam come together to put on a fantastic charity event to support a cause which is close to their hearts.
After the incredible success of last year’s event, we’re proud to have hosted our second Charity Ball in support of CoppaFeel!, Cancer Research and Lobular Breast Cancer.
This cause is deeply personal to us. As a group, we have close ties to individuals who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, and we’ve witnessed firsthand the immense strength and resilience of the women facing this disease. We've also seen the courage and compassion of those who stand beside them; family members, friends, and caregivers, through some of life’s most challenging moments.
Our fundraiser is a tribute to all of them. It's our way of raising awareness, showing solidarity, and contributing to the ongoing fight against breast cancer.
Through our fundraising efforts we really hope to make a difference for those affected now and in the future.
The charity raffle had amazing prizes kindly donated from local organisations including Everton FC, Buyers Club and Girls on the Go.
Coppafeel! is the UK’s only youth-focused breast cancer awareness charity, on a mission to get every young person checking their chest, they help educate people on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, because early detection saves lives. This is our second year supporting Coppafeel! and as four young women we felt this was an important charity to raise money for and spread their message within our cohort, as the work they do is so important.
Cancer research UK’s aim is to beat cancer by saving lives through research, influence, and information. Its ambition is to see 3 in 4 people survive cancer by 2034 achieved by funding research into the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of all cancers. We chose this charity as those close to us have not only been impacted by breast cancer, but other forms of the disease and this charity provides care and resources for those facing any type of cancer.
Lobular breast cancer is a charity we chose to support this year with a goal to advance education and understanding of lobular breast cancer by providing information for the public, clinicians, researchers and the media.
With a vision to ensure the disease is understood comprehensively, diagnosed effectively and treated uniformly. In the same way we have a personal connection to our other two charities, someone close to us was affected by lobular breast cancer and we wanted to show our support.
Guests were treated to a fun night with some great entertainment.
Over the two years, we have managed to raise over £18,000 (and counting…) for our chosen charities, which is more than we could have dreamed of when first starting our Booby Ball. The support and encouragement from those around us has been overwhelming and we would like to extend our thanks to everyone who has been involved in making our event so successful.
The Booby Ball is something we hope to continue for years to come!”
This year's event took over Zenn Liverpool for the evening.
