Huge congratulations to Student Doctor Alicia Moyo who picked up a prestigious prize at a national sexual health conference in Edinburgh this month, where she presented her findings from a project carried out at the Royal hospital’s Axess clinic.

“I am thrilled to share my experience from the BASHH Conference in Edinburgh.

I had the incredible opportunity to deliver an oral presentation at the national Sexual Health and HIV conference on ‘A retrospective review of age- and sex-specific incidence of first-episode genital herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 in attendees at sexual health services in the Northwest of England between 2016 and 2024’.

This project has been a significant focus for me throughout the year and is currently in the process of being published.

I presented during the undergraduate session and was honoured to receive the Undergraduate Award with a Highly Commended Presentation. It was an amazing experience, and I am deeply grateful for the recognition.

I would also like to extend a massive shoutout to the lead on my project, Bethany Harrison, and our supervisor, Emily Clarke, a consultant GUM clinician at Axess in the Royal Hospital. Their guidance and support were instrumental to this achievement.

If you would like more information about the project or the conference, please don’t hesitate to reach out!”
