April always arrives with a sense of momentum – longer (hopefully brighter!) days, the countdown to the end of term, and this year, a renewed focus on wellbeing and self-care. Take a moment to remember that amidst the drive for excellence – in your studies, placements, research, and personal ambitions – you matter too.

World Health Day’s Healthy beginnings, Hopeful futures theme, as echoed by the Liverpool Fetal Medicine & Surgery Society, is a powerful call to action, for us as future doctors, and as people, to champion safe, equitable maternal and newborn care, but equally a reminder that to do well, we need to look after ourselves too.

April is also Stress Awareness Month and it’s worth noting that sometimes the smallest pause can have the biggest impact – and you deserve that moment! Catch up with our Wellbeing Team’s stress-busting advice, as well as some top tips from our brilliant Clinical Skills team for staying calm, confident, and capable under pressure.

For a dose of inspiration, check out how Meera Shankar, who is preparing to step into clinical practice soon, offers a brilliant example of what’s possible when you follow your passion and take care of your purpose.

Another story not to miss: Liverpool Mature Medics Society may only be in its first year, but what a year it’s been. A brilliant example of how looking after each other makes all the difference.

And finally, a huge congratulations to the Artefacts team for their stunning show! More than just a musical, it was a celebration of joy, talent, and togetherness. At a time when things can feel overwhelming, this production reminded us of the value of fun, community, and creativity — the ultimate self-care trio.

As we head into exam season, remember - looking after yourself is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. Stay connected, be kind to yourself, and reach out if you need support. We are here for you.
