Staff Awards 2024

Published on

The University’s Staff Awards recognise the outstanding work that has been carried out by individuals and teams over the last 12 months, an opportunity for us to come together to celebrate and recognise the exceptional work of colleagues.

It’s a chance to reflect on the skills and innovations that contribute to the University’s success and impact. Nominated by staff, this year we have two individuals and one team shortlisted in the awards.

Inspirational Leader of the year

Professor H R Scott MBChB MD FRCP PFHEA
Dean of the School of Medicine

Professor Hazel Scott

The University values credible, inclusive leaders who are excellent ambassadors of the University and achieve results. This award recognises both managers and project leads across the organisation who have shown exemplary leadership, inspired others and acted as a role model, demonstrated real vision and contributed to the University’s success.

Professor Scott said:

It is a great honour to have been nominated by the School’s year directors for this award!

"It is the musicians’ talent, hard work and collaboration that enables the orchestra’s conductor to lead the best music. It is a delight to work in a School whose wonderfully skilled, caring and creative people are committed to making the most of each day, and each new opportunity together, for the benefit of our students, their future patients and our community.”

Innovation of the Year

Creativity in cross-Faculty collaboration

MSc Healthcare Leadership - Management School and School of Medicine

This award recognises teams or individuals who have introduced new technology or innovative thinking to transform colleagues’ working environment at the University. Innovations may include those that develop skills, improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, or improve the experience of colleagues or students using a particular service.

Susan Buttress Director of Postgraduate Education from the School of Medicine and Jennifer Johnson from the Management School said:

“We are delighted to have been nominated for in the category of ‘Innovation of the Year’ in the Team nomination. The nomination is for innovation and creativity in cross-Faculty collaboration for the online MSc Healthcare Leadership - Management School and School of Medicine . This nomination represents the successes of joint enterprise across two distinct cross-faculty professional groups."

Demonstrating the benefits of working across organisational and professional boundaries, it shows how future development of programmes can gain unique product innovation, and the exposure externally that results.

Outstanding Contribution to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at the University

Dr Lesley A Iwanejko

Postgraduate Academic Programme Lead - School of Medicine

This award recognises individuals or teams who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and dedication to equality, diversity, and inclusion at the University. Dr Iwanejko said:

I am both delighted and surprised to have been nominated, and then shortlisted, for this award.

"It is my passion to support and lead EDI initiatives such as the Faculty EDIW Researcher Toolkit that help drive our ambition to create a diverse and inclusive culture at the University of Liverpool where everyone, staff and students, can thrive."

The Awards Ceremony takes place in St Georges Hall in July, where the winners will be announced.
