Vice Chancellor visits Cedar House

Earlier this month, the School of Medicine welcomed Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Tim Jones, for an insightful tour of Cedar House. The visit showcased our state-of-the-art simulation facilities and explored the variety of ways our student doctors are prepared for their future careers.

Professor Jones, accompanied by Executive Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Louise Kenny, delved into various aspects of the School’s medical training. The first stop was the simulation suite, where lifelike scenarios are recreated to simulate real-life medical emergencies and serve as invaluable tools in the education and training of our student doctors. Students are exposed to a wide array of medical situations and workshops which cover areas including error recognition, human performance limitation and safety culture.

During the tour, Professor Jones had the opportunity to engage with faculty staff to gain insight into the teaching approaches which help prepare students for medical practice. The tour then extended to the study areas and popular Student Hub where Professor Jones met with the Dean of the School of Medicine, Professor Hazel Scott. It was an ideal opportunity to hear more about the School’s ethos, as well as the exciting plans in place that will work towards the future vision of the School.
