Deans Update | November 2023

I was recently reminded of a wonderful quote:

‘Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day that says: ‘I will try again tomorrow.’’ (Mary Anne Radmacher)

Courage is shown by patient and doctor alike and the courage of each can inspire and strengthen the other. Indeed, like the light at the heart of several of our different cultural celebrations just now, both our own courage in the face of challenges, and the courage to reach out to others who are struggling, can reach far beyond what seems a small moment.

This week, courage, compassion and dedication was celebrated at our annual School Prize Evening (link) and as we celebrated our prize winners, we also acknowledged all the courage-building support and words of encouragement from others, including our prize winners’ guests.

Our new year one cohort brought courage and resilience to their recent team-building trip to Altcar (link). Despite the cold weather and challenging problem-solving tasks, team spirit was plentiful and leadership skills built upon – qualities that underpin the values of our profession, and of course lots of fun and new friendships as well.

With teamwork in mind, our new course reps (link) are ready to support the student voice, explore new ideas to enhance your student experience and build connections across the year. Teambuilding, trust and communication is also being strengthened through the sporting skills of indoor skydiving (link), and we are reminded of the personal strength and determination (link) that is drawn upon in times of adversity.
