New students and medical society members enjoy the Welcome event

Medical society NeuroSoc hosted a fantastic welcome event for our first-year students last week, marking one month since our new students began their medical journey.

Starting medical school can feel daunting – finding your way to lecture theatres, meeting new people, and getting to know your timetable to name a few. NeuroSoc, in collaboration with twelve other medical societies, made sure our freshers felt welcomed by arranging an exciting games night – pizza included!

The evening was a huge success and a wonderful chance for students to meet new people, mingle with a range of medical societies and gain advice from society representatives who have a wealth of exciting events planned for across the academic year.

It was also a great opportunity to check in on how the first few weeks of medical school have been, and what they’ve enjoyed most so far. Abiha, President of Respiratory Society, said that “the collaborative event was a perfect opportunity for us to get to know the freshers but also for them to get to know each other!”

Lilly, President of Liverpool Foetal Medicine and Surgical Society (LFMSS), enjoyed collaborating with so many medical societies and helping new students get to to know them all throughout the evening.

“Everyone that came really enjoyed it, and it was nice to get to know the freshers in a relaxed and fun environment - a great way to show them how important breaks are alongside studying. They had the opportunity to meet their new course mates and asked society members lots of questions, ending the evening feeling reassured and excited about the year to come!”

Alongside all the pizza, there were plenty of games ranging from Mafia to Uno.

The Draw-on-my-back challenge was a big hit! As you can see from the photos, there are some interesting drawings from the night!
