What a fantastic start to the year! It has been wonderful to catch up with so many of you, and to welcome our newest students to the School.

I hope you are returning to us (or indeed joining us) after a fun and restful summer. I myself relished the opportunity be one of the parents at my son’s graduation and to watch my dog enjoy a range of different beach walks.

I was delighted to join our Class of 2022 at their graduation this July and revel in the pride and joy of reaching such a milestone, shared by loved ones, educators and of course the graduates themselves.

Over the summer, our Year 4 students successfully completed Elective placements up and down the UK in areas as diverse as pre-hospital medicine with Essex Air Ambulance and Sports and Exercise Medicine at Nottingham Forest FC. Additionally, students from the International Medical University in Malaysia and Oral and MaxilloFacial Surgery completed a Summer School before joining Year 3 of the programme.

Staff have been hard at work preparing for the new academic year with plenty of optimisations and additions to enhance your student experience. Our virtual learning environment, Canvas, has a new structure allowing quicker access to learning materials that support you in your studies. A new system has been rolled out which makes it easier for you to manage and document your participation in learning, in line with new GMC expectations and the University’s new guidelines.

This year, the new Year 5 curriculum will benefit from an enhanced approach to developing the core skills needed to support student learning about acute patient care through technologies in Simulation, Communication for Practice (CCP) and Clinical Skills.

The past two weeks have seen a flurry of welcome activities for our new Year One and I have really enjoyed meeting our newest students. The Liverpool Welcome culminated with a fun-filled medical societies fair at the Guild this Wednesday. Thank you to all of those who came down to represent the various groups and showcase the many different ways being a part of a society can enrich the student experience.

21-22 was a fantastic year, but here’s to making 22-23 even better!
