Commendations | April 2022

Student Doctor Charlotte Patterson is recognised with a commendation this month alongside educators, supervisors and practices for going above and beyond.

As we move into the final term and look towards the assessment period and the end of this academic year, don’t forget that commendations are a great way of recognising teams or individuals, whether they be staff or students, who are really knocking it out of the park.

Celebrating this month

Charlotte Patterson, nominated by Dr David, Lewis for an excellent case presentation in CCT.

Commendations were also awarded to a number of educators at our partner trusts and practices, including Hope Farm Medical Centre for providing a fantastic experience in a GP surgery, supporting learning and allowing students to develop their own independence. The Practice was nominated by students Ioan Wardhaugh and Lucy Nove.

Lucy says, "The main thing that stood out was how friendly and welcoming everyone was.

They took the time out of their day to make us feel like part of the team, even asking for fun facts about us to put in the ‘new starters’ section of the monthly newsletter.

They made us feel like we were really members of the team for the whole time we were there."

Dr Bridget Maher received a commendation following a nomination by Year Four Student Jade Friday.

I decided to nominate Dr Maher for a commendation certificate as she was an incredibly supportive and enthusiastic Education Supervisor. She really went above and beyond to deliver excellent teaching for us.

Mr Christopher Wong also picked up a commendation after being nominated by Student Doctor Ellie Kingsmill for offering a supportive and inclusive experience in Renal Medicine to Year Two student doctors.

Ellie says, “What stood out to me about Mr Wong was how approachable and friendly he was.

He introduced us to every patient he saw and gave his time to explain as he went along, allowing us to participate in the consultations where we could and encouraging us to ask questions.

He was really good at explaining difficult concepts so the other student doctor and I both came away from the afternoon we had spent with him with a much better understanding of the common renal disorders."

If you have spotted excellence in teaching, studies, or in someone’s extra-curricular activities, a commendation is a fantastic addition to that person’s portfolio.

It couldn’t be easier to nominate – simply complete a quick and easy form which you can find on the Commendations page (link) of the student intranet.
