Just a Minnitt

The School and in particular, the Year 1 Team were delighted to welcome our new student doctors at the beginning of October.

“Welcome events for our new Year 1 MBChB students were a different affair this year, as COVID-19 meant that sadly no face-to-face events could go ahead. We managed to have a great week of online welcome events and the Year 1 team enjoyed meeting all our new students over the course of the week.” said Alice Munday from the Year 1 Team.

“In particular, we enjoyed a competitive but light-hearted quiz hosted by our own Professor Gallagher; it was stiff competition but the bubble that excelled in their knowledge of cheese or diseases and the (questionable?) musical tastes of the Year 1 team were – Minnitt!”

“We will continue to host quizzes and social events throughout the year to keep you feeling connected with each other – keep an eye on your inbox for more information on future events!"

Just a Minnitt

The Year 1 teams are all names in honour of prestigious alumni from our School.

Dr Robert James Minnitt (1889-1973), University of Liverpool School of Medicine alumnus, GP and pioneering anaesthetist. In 1933 he was appointed as University Lecturer in anaesthesia and was, in fact the first such in the country. He was President of both the Anaesthetic and of the General Practitioner section of the Royal Society of Medicine. Invented the ‘Minnitt Machine’ in 1934 which dispensed air to women in labour - commonly known as the gas and air method.
