Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest trusts providing physical health and mental health services in the North West, serving more than 1.4 million people across the region. Mersey Care offer specialist inpatient and community services as well as learning disability, addiction and brain injury services.
Mersey Care is one of only three mental health trusts in the U.K which offer high secure mental health facilities. The Trust provides placements for medical students in the Southport, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens, Knowsley, Warrington, and Halton areas.
Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust delivers a four-week psychiatry placement, which includes two days of child and adolescent mental Health (CAMHS), in Year 4 of the MBChB curriculum, and a one-week older adult psychiatry placement as part of the four-week Core Skills placement in Year 5 of the MBChB curriculum.
