Liverpool Women's University Hospital
The Liverpool Women's University Hospital is a one of the largest maternity and gynaecology units in the UK, with approximately 8,500 babies born each year. It is part of NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group (UHLG).
The Trust sees 10,000 elective theatre cases, and 21,000 outpatient procedures performed each year. Its emergency room serves 12,000 patients, while the gynaecological department sees 15,000 new referrals annually. The Trust's neonatal unit cares for around 1,300 babies a year.
The hospital offers tertiary services for feto-maternal medicine, gynaecological oncology, urogynaecology, endometriosis and reproductive medicine.
Liverpool Women’s University Hospital is a specialist trust with services including Gynaecology, Gynae-Oncology, Urogynaecology, Reproductive medicine, Robotic surgery, Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology, Obstetrics, Fetal medicine, Maternal medicine, Anaesthetics, Neonatology and Genetics.
Because the hospital has a very high through put of patients all students gain excellent experience in all the key clinical areas especially labour ward, outpatients, ambulatory operating, operating theatres and fetal medicine.
The hospital has been featured on Channel 4’s One Born Every Minute three times, which has further enhanced the national recognition of the hospital.
Feedback from students is very positive and they enjoy both the clinical activity and the friendly atmosphere of the hospital. Students are always very complementary about community experience, which is an integral part of the placement.
Clinical skills provision
Clinical skills are taught in clinical settings by experienced staff. There is a clinical skills laboratory with excellent provision of manikins and training models.
