Aintree University Hospital (UHLG)
Aintree University Hospital is part of NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group (UHLG)
The current UHLG model is comprised of Liverpool University Hospitals (LUHFT), Liverpool Women’s Hospital (LWH); and will be joined in future by Liverpool Heart and Chest (LHCH), The Walton Centre (WCNN) and Clatterbridge Cancer Centre (CCC).
LUHFT which comprises of Aintree Hospital, Royal Liverpool Hospital and Broadgreen Hospital; have a Medical Education team supporting across three sites with dedicated Undergraduate Clinicians, Administration and Practice Education facilitators. As a multi-site model, some clinical specialties will be functioning across the sites in a collaborative way, while other specialties are single site.
Aintree is an acute teaching hospital in the north of Liverpool providing emergency, specialist and general care. It is the single receiving site for adult major trauma patients in Cheshire and Merseyside and is investing in further developing its urgent care services.
The hospital also hosts several regional services, including Gastroenterology, Diabetes, Palliative Care, Ear, Nose & Throat, Maxillofacial, Vascular, Orthopaedics, Respiratory and Rheumatology, including a Behçet’s Syndrome Centres of Excellence, one of only three in the country.
Over the last few years, 22.5 million investment programme has transformed the front door services to include a Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) purpose-built Stroke Emergency Assessment Centre. This sits alongside Aintree’s Emergency Department, providing specialist care for stroke patients, as part of the North Mersey Stroke Service. It also has two hybrid operating suites, the first hospital in Merseyside to allow for surgery and state-of-the-art imaging to be undertaken at the same time.
Broadgreen Hospital treats patients from across Merseyside and Cheshire and is home to several elective (planned) surgical, diagnostic and treatment services, together with specialist patient rehabilitation. The hospital has a main surgical theatre space for complex patient procedures, alongside a surgical hub at the Broadgreen site which is designed to provide planned, low-complexity procedures, focussing on specialities such as general surgery, orthopaedics, urology. The hospital also hosts a regional dermatology service.
