Jonathan Falkingham (Urban Splash)

Jonathan Mark Falkingham graduated from the Liverpool School in 1988 (BA 1984, B.Arch 1988). In 1991 he founded the design company Shed subsequently merging with the practice of King McAllister - co-founded by another Liverpool graduate Rod McAllister (B.Arch 1987) - to become ShedKM. In 1993 Falkingham co-founded the development company Urban Splash. The company was at the forefront of the urban development of cities such as Liverpool and Manchester specialising in the transformation of previously derelict urban spaces into apartments and offices - often difficult sites that other developers had been reluctant to tackle. Their earliest scheme was Concert Square in Liverpool which involved the demolition of an old factory and warehousing and the conversion of other buildings into apartments and bars surrounding a newly created urban square. Falkingham is a member of the board of the Liverpool Architecture and Design Advisory Board and a trustee of National Museums Liverpool. In 2013 he was awarded an MBE for services to architecture and regeneration.

Each year Jonathan Falkingham MBE/Urban Splash book prizes are given for outstanding CGIs, rendered drawings, models, and contextual responses.
