Stephen Lawrence Day 2026
22nd April 2026 1.30pm - 3.30pm University of Liverpool School of Architecture, New Reilly Room
Stephen Lawrence dreamt of becoming an architect, but his tragic murder on April 22 1993 meant that this dream would never become a reality.
Stephen’s dream was unfortunately stolen from him, so please join us as we celebrate his legacy and explore the idea of Justice in the built environment.

Just Language: Language as a Tool for Spatial Justice
As issues like race, gender, sexuality, and ability continue to hold a central space in the profession, it is paramount that we are constantly and critically interrogating our use of language in relation to this ever-changing discourse.
In a profession that is so much centred around people and our ability to communicate complex concepts and ideas, the way we use language - whether it be words, colours, or even photographs - matters deeply. It is our individual and collective responsibility to ensure that the language we choose and use is advancing and not impeding inclusive agendas in the built environment; that we wield this as a tool for spatial justice.
