The School of Architecture is pleased to welcome members of the COST Action Connecting Landscape Architecture Archives to enhance European landscape practice, research and education (ConnectLAA) on the 15th and 16th April 2026.
The Action brings together for the first time, information on the content of European landscape architecture archives and develops innovative tools for archival management, research and teaching. The involvement of multiple disciplines such as landscape architecture, cultural studies, art history, archival science, and IT ensures high scientific and technical standards in archival management, access, and cultural heritage preservation. It also enables these archives to be used as resources for innovative research and education.
The Action aims to develop innovative learning materials and a shared thesaurus, supporting the promotion of emerging careers and the development of international research projects that will contribute to a new kind of networked heritage practice. Its outcomes will also uncover previously undiscovered histories in Europe and beyond, addressing issues related to the cultural transfer of landscape design ideas.

The University of Liverpool School of Architecture was the first in the UK to offer landscape architectural teaching at higher education level through its pioneering Civic Design course as early as 1908. It is therefore particularly fitting to host participants of this important initiative in Liverpool.
As part of the LSA’s research lecture series Dr Ulrike Krippner (BOKU Vienna) Chair of the Action will be in conversation with Dr Imke van Hellemondt (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) and Professor Luca Csepely-Knorr. They will discuss the importance of transnational landscape history research, including their joint, AHRC funded IFLA 75 project. This event will take place at 1pm on 15th April in the Mezzanine space in the new LSA extension.
