A paper co-authored by Emeritus Professor Steve Sharples and former PhD students in the Liverpool School of Architecture has won the Best Paper of 2025 award from the journal Frontiers of Architectural Research.
The paper, entitled ‘Urban geometry as a climate adaptation strategy for enhancing outdoor thermal comfort in a hot desert climate’ 14(2), 525-544, 2025, assessed, using field measurements and computational fluid dynamic modelling, the impact of different street canyon geometries on outdoor thermal comfort conditions in two Egyptian cities with very different climates: Aswan, located in the southern desert region, and Alexandria, on the Mediterranean coast.
Two co-authors of the paper, Mohammad Alshenaifi and Ali Aldersoni, were successful PhD students in the Liverpool School of Architecture, having been supervised by Steve Sharples and Dr David Chow respectively.
