PhD student Ahmad Mansuri has been awarded this years Ivan Petrovic Award at the 43rd eCAADe Conference (Education and Research in Computer Aided Architectural design in Europe). Hosted this year by the Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, the Ivan Petrovic prize is awarded annually at the eCAADe Conference for the best presentation by a young researcher.
Ahmad Mansuri's PhD project is supervised by Asterios Agkathidis, Davide Lombardi, and Hanmei Chen. His research focuses on computational design and robotic-assisted fabrication using bamboo, with a particular emphasis on developing new workflows for human-robot collaborative assembly of traditional Indonesian roof typologies.
By integrating parametric modelling, structural optimisation, and digital fabrication techniques, his work demonstrates how non-standardised materials like bamboo can be reimagined through advanced computational methods and robotic technologies. This research contributes for a reproducible computational-to-robotic fabrication framework for curved bamboo structures and opens novel directions for human-robot collaboration in bamboo construction.
The Ivan Petrovic prize is awarded annually at the eCAADe Conference for the best presentation by a young researcher (under 35 years of age) in memory of the former Vice President of eCAADe, Professor Ivan Petrovic, whose enthusiastic and energetic approach to research and education in Computer Aided Architectural design was an inspiration to many in the field.
