SLSJ Extra
Get more from your degree with SLSJ Extra.
As you begin your journey with us, it’s not just about what you learn in lectures. It’s also about the experiences you gain and the connections you make that will help you succeed.
That’s where SLSJ Extra comes in.
This is our series of extra-curricular talks and events designed especially for students in law, sociology, social policy and criminology. It’s here to show you how your studies connect to real-world careers, and how you can use your time with us to start building your future.
You’ll hear from a wide mix of guest speakers who work in areas connected to law, justice, social change and reform. Whether you're thinking about becoming a solicitor, barrister, forensic investigator, social researcher, probation officer, policy analyst or detective, these sessions will give you insight into the skills and experience employers look for, and what the work involves day to day.
SLSJ Extra is also a great opportunity to meet people, ask questions and build your network. You might find a mentor, explore placement or internship opportunities, or get practical advice on how to break into your chosen field.
As you settle in and start thinking about your future, SLSJ Extra is here to support you. It’s one of many ways we help you get the most from your time here and feel ready for what comes next.
SLSJ Extra events and talks take place throughout the academic year during teaching weeks. We’ll keep you updated with what’s on via email, the student bulletin or our social media channels.
